June socks

Well May was rather productive!
I managed a record 3 pairs of socks...

Wild Flower and Honeycomb socks in home dyed Yokohama Yellow

Game of Throne Socks in "Dragons Breath 2" from Yarn Angels Ltd

The third pair was some what as a snap decision as one of my absoltely favourite dyers Fab Funky Fibres re-opened their Etsy shop in what felt like forever, so I snapped up the 15 coloured rainbow socks and then I had a bonus Mini sent with it!!! I purposely ordered 2 x 50g skeins so I could match up the socks perfectly and I used the blue mini to make after throught heels on both....

I call them My Super Happy Socks!

Then I went back to doing some home deying and took some inspiration from Cath Kidston colours...
This is the second attemp at preety pastels as the first did not knit up well although the colours looked great....

Thisis what It looked like when dyed and then dried.

"Pretty Pastels 2nd Attempt"
And so we come to our June "Socks in a bowl"...although not actually in a bowl I'm afraid! ....

Looking really pretty if I do say so myself!....

Oh, you night have noticed my new KnitPro needles. Sooooooo in love with them! My very old ones finally gave up the ghost so I was forced really......

That's all for now. Happy Knitting x x

In a bigger bowl

Hello May!

A month of firsts I've decided!
First off though, lets have a look at what happened by the end of April....

Peace of Yarn socks completed using the pattern Jeck By Regina Satta (Ravelry)

And then these just appeared. I call them "I Swear I don't Know How this Happened".....

Striped Melon Socks by Spohia Hoang (Ravelry)
I have to make mention though that these are the comfiest socks ever! I made the feet extra long to allow for any shrinkage and the Kitchener stitch that the toe is flawless, if I do say so myself!

Right , on to the Month of May!
I got an early birthday present arrive last week....
Sock weight home dye kit (with extra Skein) from Devon Sun Yarns

I was so excited to do this, but decided to wait until this lovely Bank Holiday weekend to get started.
My lovely mother-in-law gave me a big stainless steel pot to "cook" them in (hence the post title: In a Bigger Bowl).

I knew that the first one had to be variegated Yellow (my favourite colour) as I wanted to join in with my first Sock Down KAL (may 2016) on Ravelry. One of the challenges is Lace and I knew the exact pattern I wanted to try...Wild Flowers and Honeycomb by Olivia Villarreal .

So this is the result of my first ever home dyed yarn:

I call her Yokahoma Yellow...
Yokahoma Yellow (1st hand dyed Yarn)
She (yes, She) is so named after the gorgeous Yokahoma Tulips I have growing in pots in my garden. Yellow is the happiest colour in the world to me and I'm so in love with how she turned out.

Yokahoma Tulip
Therefore, the sock in the bowl this month is the Wildflower and Honeycomb socks. With its Old Norwegian Cast on (...yes, really...) and its twisted knit cuff (...yes, really...) This is the most technical sock pattern I think I have encountered (and that includes those Pumpkin socks!)
Lace Challenge socks: SKAMAY16

The second Skein I dyed is very different but I knew the colours I wanted to have.

I call her Mermaids Coral:

Mermaids Coral (2nd hand Dyed Yarn)
I'm so in love again! This one took a lot longer to wash and dry (due to the darker colours), but I'm so pleased with how it turned out! I will definitely be getting some more plain Yarn to dye!

I do have one more Skein that I've ordered from Yarn Angels Ltd and I will show you that next month.

Just to finish, I thought I would throw in a couple of pictures of these two beauties cooking In A Bigger Bowl (....see what I did there?!)

April Socks

My Pumpkin socks were finished in record time....God Bless the Easter Holidays!

Little Pumpkin Socks

Ive been staring at these socks for over a year now and Ive had the yarn for them for almost as long, but something about them scared me too much and I genuinly thought I wouldnt be able to make them. Boy am I glad I did!

They were my March socks, I suppose, but I'm also classing them as my "October socks" too!

In the bowl this month...

Jeck socks pattern/ Peace of Yarn from Angel Yarns
I won this yarn in a competition over on Facebook. Its very vibrant and will certainly liven up my #operationsockdrawer I have developing!

Ive changed the heel pattern to the same as that of the Little Pumpkin socks as I found it so much easier to pick to the stitches with the garter stitch at the sides. Plus I think it might be  alittle more hard wearing.

Ive also been darning (yes, really!) my old favourite socks and have actually worn them again since, so the time taken to do that was worth it!...

That's all for now. Happy Stitching x

In the Bowl

I've been Knitting socks for about 2 years now.
I was warned it was addicting, but alas, I didn't listen....
How foolish of me!

Six pairs down the line, with a few breaks in between, I'm now back on my steady path to "operation sock drawer".
I have some things to learn still; namely how to repare my beloved favourite socks that have rather large holes on their over-worn heels.

The pictures that started it all off....
Picture from: Trailing Clouds

Picture from Domesticali

These are from Domesticali and Trailing Clouds . When I saw this yarn, something inside me made me desperate to learn to knit socks... (I'm yet to get some Mind the Gap yarn, but its no longer made - Insert Crying here- )

Anyway, In the Bowl will be a the update of what I'm currently knitting...

Pattern: Little Pumpkin socks (Ravelry)
These are called "Little Pumpkin Socks" and you can click on the name to find the link. They have been on my "To-do" list for over a year,, and although its no where near October, I thought I would get started!
I usually knit socks toe-up so this is new to me.

I've also just finished some simple cable socks...

The yarn is called Flower Power by the Knitting Goddess. As soon as I saw the yarn I was in love.

That's all for now. Happy Knitting x
